Welcome to OUTWARD ®
The difficulty in matching the academic content and outcomes of units (courses) between sending and host universities is a serious barrier to the integration of study abroad in the curriculum. The OUTWARD database has been developed to address this issue for students planning to come to The University of Western Australia (UWA) by providing comprehensive information on the academic content and outcomes of our units.
The OUTWARD system for prospective students has five sections:
Study abroad packages
Choosing what you will study when you embark on a study abroad programs can be a daunting and tedious process – especially if you wish to make progress in your major. If you are a science and engineering major you face barriers that result from the sequential nature of your curriculum, difficulties in obtaining information on units to be studied overseas and the overwhelming choice that confronts you when you open up the handbook on the website of a foreign university.
In UWA’s collection of "cognate discipline" packages for study abroad, we have done the tedious work for you. We have collected together only those UWA units that are likely to be of interest to you and for which you are likely to have the required prior knowledge from studies at home. These are listed by discipline area (anatomy, microbiology, chemistry etc) and the semester in which they are offered at UWA. This means that you are making your selection from 50 rather than 500 units.
UWA unit information
OUTWARD database contains information on all units offered at UWA. For the present, most of the UWA unit information is brief since it is drawn from the University Handbooks (formerly known as the Faculty Handbooks). We are in the process of adding more units that have the full description format. OUTWARD gives you access to this information in a searchable database.
Credit history
OUTWARD includes a record of the history of all units taken at UWA by study abroad students. OUTWARD gives you access to this information in a searchable database.
Unit cart
When browsing through the list of units available at UWA, there is the option of dropping units into a 'cart' for latter review. The contents of the cart can be saved in a database for later retrieval and the details of the unit selection can also be emailed.
Apply online
After units have been selected and available in the cart, students can apply online for admission to the Student Exchange and Study Abroad Programme at UWA.
